Sand County Foundation, in partnership with the Utah Farm Bureau Federation, Western AgCredit and the Utah Cattlemen’s Association, seeks applications for the 2013 Leopold Conservation Award in Utah.
The Award, which is comprised of $10,000 and an Aldo Leopold crystal, recognizes Utah farmers and ranchers who demonstrate outstanding stewardship and sustainable management of natural resources. The Leopold Conservation Award is presented in honor of renowned conservationist and author Aldo Leopold who called for an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage.
“Through this partnership, we have had the pleasure of honoring six outstanding agricultural families in Utah,” said Dr. Brent Haglund, Sand County Foundation President. “These families are representative of the tremendous conservation work of ranchers and farmers across Utah, and we look forward to recognizing many more of them through the Leopold Conservation Award.”
The 2012 award recipient was the Heaton family in Kane County. The Leopold Conservation Award will be presented at the Utah Farm Bureau’s Convention in November in Layton.
The nomination deadline is August 2, 2013.
