Western AgCredit President and CEO, David G. Brown, has announced his upcoming retirement at the end of the year. Brown will continue to serve in his role until his successor is appointed by the Board of Directors by October 1, 2026, at which time he will assist in the leadership transition until the end of 2026.
The Western AgCredit Board of Directors has engaged FCCS Consulting to assist in identifying the Association’s next President and CEO, ensuring a thoughtful and seamless leadership transition.
Brown has served as President and CEO of Western AgCredit for 10 years, leading the cooperative through a period of significant growth and strategic transformation. During his tenure, Western AgCredit remained focused on its mission of serving farmers, ranchers, and rural communities while strengthening its cooperative foundation and long term financial health. Under his leadership, the Association doubled its loan portfolio from $750 million to $1.5 billion, expanded lending programs, embraced technology, and strengthened its overall financial position.
“It has been an honor to serve our members, employees, and directors,” Brown said. “Western AgCredit is a strong cooperative with a dedicated team and a clear mission. We are well positioned for the future with a solid financial foundation, engaged leadership, and an unwavering commitment to agriculture. I am confident the Board will select a leader who will continue to serve agriculture and rural communities with integrity and vision while building on the momentum this organization has achieved.”
Kim Haws, Chairman of the Western AgCredit Board of Directors, expressed appreciation for Brown’s leadership. “The Western AgCredit Board of Directors appreciates David’s commitment to our members and the steady leadership he has provided, which has made a lasting impact on this organization. We are grateful for his years of dedicated service and the strong foundation he leaves for Western AgCredit’s continued success. David will be greatly missed, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Brown’s roots in agriculture run deep, and the Association is grateful for his 33 years of committed service. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Coalville, Utah, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Utah State University. Brown began his career with Western AgCredit in 1993 as a loan officer in the Logan Branch and spent eight years working directly with farmers and ranchers. He was promoted to Vice President of Credit Services in 2001, named Chief Operating Officer in 2014, and appointed President and CEO in 2016.
Brown is known for his collaborative, approachable style and his commitment to producers and rural communities. He has been an active contributor to the Farm Credit System, serving in a leadership role with the Farm Credit System’s Presidents Planning Committee and as a member of the Group of 30.
Brown remains closely connected to agriculture through his family’s farming operation in Missouri, which he plans to focus on more after he completes his service to Western AgCredit. Dave and his wife, Jennifer, have four children and three grandchildren.
