On June 28, 2016 join USU fruit and vegetable specialists to learn about the latest research results for commercial orchards and vegetable crops in northern Utah. The tour will begin at 9:30 am at the Kaysville Education Center building on Sego Lily Dr. just off of 50 West in Kaysville (see map). The tour will include fruit research on rootstocks, irrigation, high density tart cherry plantings, pest management (fire blight, codling moth and cherry fruit fly), invasive insect surveys, and organic peach production systems. Vegetable research results will include organic asparagus, organic cover crops, biochar to enhance yields and suppress soil diseases, onion nutrition management to suppress pests, and enhancing tomato and pepper quality with stakes, mulches and shading. Printed copies of the updated 2016 Utah Vegetable Production and Pest Management Guide will be available. A light lunch and refreshments will be served. There will be two concurrent tour tracks for fruits and vegetables, and the tour will end at 2:00 pm. Reserve your free ticket so we can plan on food, handouts, and tour trailer space for you.
