Boyd is co-owner and officer of a family ranching operation where his family raises beef cattle and produces wheat, corn, alfalfa hay, and triticale.

Along with ranching, Boyd serves as a Box Elder County Commissioner and sits on the Bear River Water Conservancy District Board. Boyd and his wife Mary live in Honeyville, Utah.
