Young, Beginning and Small (YBS) Farmer Program

YBS MISSION STATEMENT

"Western Agcredit is committed to do its part to facilitate the development of a new generation of farmers and ranchers. Western AgCredit will provide competitive financing to meet the special needs of young, beginning, and small producers to the full extent of their credit worthiness. Western AgCredit will also make leadership and educational opportunities available through its own programs and in cooperation with other parties."

At Western AgCredit, we recognize that the future of American agriculture depends on a new generation of producers. That's why we're committed to supporting the Young, Beginning and Small (YBS) Farmers in our territory. We sponsor or donate to numerous organizations that help contribute to the education of YBS farmers.

Definitions of YBS:
  • Young Borrower - a farmer, rancher, producer or harvester of aquatic products who is younger than age 35 as of the loan transaction date.
  • Beginning Borrower - a farmer, rancher, producer or harvester of aquatic products who has 10 years or less farming, ranching or aquatic experience as of the loan transaction date.
  • Small Borrower - a farmer, rancher, producer or harvester of aquatic products who normally generates less than $250,000 in annual gross sales of agricultural or aquatic products.

Through the YBS program, we offer competitive financing for young, beginning and small producers to the full extent of their creditworthiness. Programs for YBS farmers include underwriting standards and guidelines to provide for extension of sound and constructive credit, consistent with the needs of YBS farmers and the Association's business objectives.

Special credit programs for YBS farmers may contain requirements for cosigners and guarantors, including FSA guaranties to further manage risk.
